what's new in v5.1.0?

what's new in v5.0.6?
- Audio:
Seans Eile now includes a free "sampler set" of audio recordings of a native Donegal speaker (in the "colours" module).
You can purchase the complete audio set if you wish.
- Easier fadas:
In Irish, long vowels are marked with a "síneadh fada" (e.g.
á,
é,
í,
ó, and
ú.)
Most non-European keyboards aren't set up to type these special characters.
If your computer isn't fada-friendly, you can turn on an option in Seans Eile that will help.
Type the vowel twice in a row and Seans Eile will automatically convert it for you. For example, if you type taa it will be converted to tá, and siios will be converted to síos.
(Note: You must have the "aa -> á" option selected in the Options menu.)
- Improved Quiz Editor: The new editor should make it easier to create your own quizzes.
- Improved user interface: More buttons and icons and stuff. Pretty colours too.
what's new in v4.0.1?
- More flexibility: You now have a choice whether to type the answer (and have your spelling and mutations checked),
or just see the answer and indicate whether you knew it or not.
For longer phrases and sentences, that second option might be more practical.
It can be annoying to have an entire sentence marked "wrong" for a simple typo.
- Uses an installer, no more Java Web Start.
I've dropped the Java Web Start technology, and gone back to an old fashioned installer.
Java Web Start is a good piece of technology, but because it's unfamiliar to most users,
it's confusing for them, and it's more difficult for me to support.
There were also problems using the Java Web Start version on a Mac, and I'm hoping that
going back to an installer will cure that.
Unfortunately, I don't have a Mac to test on, so I have to just code and hope!

a separate application.
From the file menu, select "Convert an old quiz (v2.x) to the new format".
- bug fix:
The tool to convert quiz files (from version 2.x format to v3.x) was saving quizzes with the wrong encoding; this is now fixed.
Any files you have alread converted from the old version are probably corrupt.
You have several choices:
- Start fresh with the original xxx.quiz files, and convert them using the
converter in the latest version.
- Start fresh with default.seq and make any changes you like. (I recommend you
save it under a new name.)
- You can send any corrupted quiz file to support@nualeargais.ie.
We will repair it (if possible) and send it back to you.

An earlier version of Seans Eile contained a file with an invalid encoding. This prevented vowels with fadas from displaying properly on some systems.
The new file uses the correct encoding.

Seans Eile now "remembers" the last quiz you worked with, whether you were editing or running the quiz, and various other settings. This will be useful to people who work with multiple quiz files.
- bug fix: Fixed character encoding problem (only affected Linux & Mac users).
- bug fix: Fixed bug that occurred when trying to edit a new (empty) quiz.
- bug fix: Fixed bug in quiz editor where anything typed in "tip" column was ignored. However, there is still a bug: When you click the "New" button, whatever you've typed in the current field will "jump" to the new item unless you've saved the record. Workaround: Before clicking the "New" button, press the ENTER key to save the last value.

Corrected a couple of incorrect or incomplete answers to existing quiz questions.
