níl (= is not) is a combination of ní and fuil, so: ní fhuil > níl (fuil is the actual stem of all dependent forms in the present).

*In Munster, the particle ná ist used instead of nach as the neg. interrogative particle (ná incurs neither lenition nor eclipsis)
